I'm Frank

Lyrics

(1)

Now I've got a lot to say now baby
But it doesn't concern me today now baby
Hello

Gimme gimme gimme it slowly baby
Gimme gimme gimme it slowly baby
Give it to me gently baby
Gimme gimme gimme it slowly baby
Hello

Gimme gimme gimme it slowly baby
Gimme gimme gimme it slowly baby
Give it to me gently baby
Gimme gimme gimme it slowly baby
Shh
Ahh
Unh Unh Anh Anh

Gimme gimme gimme it slowly baby
Gimme gimme gimme it slowly baby

Gimme gimme gimme it gently baby
Gimme gimme gimme it gently baby
Just gimme gimme gimme it slowly baby
Gimme gimme gimme it slowly baby

Gimme gimme gimme it gently baby

[That was Craig's tribute to Frank Zappa. Now we can all laugh about this, but that was his attempt to be Frank therefore I've entitled it "I'm Frank"]

Notes

1. It has often been remarked that this song, which purports to be a tribute to Frank Zappa, sounds nothing like Zappa, but to my ears it's reminiscent of "Hungry Freaks, Daddy," a song the Fall covered 33 times between 2006 and 2011. ^

I believe the second line is actually 'but it doesn't come to me today...'

In which case, there would be another way to read the song's title... the song's protagonist is uninspired and unable to work, and tells his lover very directly that what he wants is sex. Thus he is being frank.

harleyr - The second line is definitely "but it doesn't concern me today now baby" (not "come to me today"...)

No action required then, excellent.

Clearly heavily indebted to Abba's 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight).'

Hmm, not sure about that

The Zappa comparison seems to me to be that the song is about Zappa's favorite subject, viz. sex.

On the album 'Live in Zagreb' MES can be heard saying 'Hello Man City FC' during this song.

Jon Bubb Comment #8.

Possibly that's because Live at Zagreb was recorded on 15 April 1990, and the previous day Manchester City had beaten Manchester United 2:1 at Maine Road.

This is a great song about how erotic slow sex can be.

Comment #10. Indeed. The one thing that MES had in common with Sting.

He's Frank (Slight Return) was the Monochrome Set's debut single, produced as a demo cassette in 1978 and subsequently as a 7" on Rough Trade in 1979:
