Modelling the bald look (4)

Notes

1.  Sheepshagger" is a term of abuse aimed at football fans of Derby FC, and people from rural areas in general. Using Mc suggests that Hugh may be Scottish, as 'Mc' is part of many celtic surnames. (thanks MuMushoes)

Dan: In the Mojo magazine interview at the Green Man festival in 2015, MES refers to English actor Johnny Vegas as a "sheepshagger."He's "from Oldham," he explains.

Our best information suggests that Vegas is not in fact from Oldham...we're not sure about the sheep.

^

2. Have a guess (bleedin' or otherwise).

^

3. Richard (Madeley) and Judy (Finnegan) are British television personalities; MuMuShoes has discovered that Richard and Judy have a daughter named Chloe, who is a model. Wikipedia says that Richard and Judy are married, but they do have different surnames, so maybe that's why their offspring is said to be a bastard...

^

4. Stephen Hanley, of course, is the Fall's longtime bass player, and a charter member of the League of Bald-Headed Men; Whitefield is in Greater Manchester.

I always heard it a 'from Malton' nor 'from Bolton'. Mark's 'B' does soften to a 'M' sound throughout. Anybody else? Malton is in North Yorkshire, btw.

Delmore, I still think I hear "from Bolton" but I wouldn't bet my life on it either way.

Richard and Judy's Daughter is a Model
Can't find any info, but she would have been 9 at the time.
Potentially she modelled Childrens Fashion on their Morning teevee show, but only guessing

(Johnny Vegas isn't "from Oldham". He was born in St Helens. I dunno, maybe he lived/lives there or something.

It's 'Vested offspring' as in nepotism. Or perhaps wearing a vest, who knows?

Isn't it June rather than Hugh?

Funny, always heard Hugh McSheepshagger as Hulme Sheepshagger.
(But I was wrongly influenced by hearing Bolton and Whitefield.)
There are no sheep anywhere near Hulme and few sheep shaggers as in Bolton/ Oldham/ Rochdale etc.

I always thought it was “mr 8 ball Eric from Whitefield”!

Like Chris, I’ve always heard the name as beginning with a ‘J’ and likely to be June, or Jude, or even, dare I say, Jew. In that same vein ‘baseball caps’, has always sounded to me more like ‘skullcaps’ too. That would account for the laugh at the notion of them being reversed.

Never heard this track, but now I intend to..just a thought on 'sheepshaggers'..applied to the Welsh presumably because of the high numbers of sheep and relatively low human population, but in the case of Derby, it's the folk ballad 'The Derby Ram' and the adoption by Derby County F.C. of a ram emblem on the club badge which has led to the association.
