Snazzy

Lyrics

(1)

Let me tell ya about the wee lads
And the snazzy jazzy tune
Green and unfettered on mock stage,
In the fishbowl city   (2)
They were regarded as snazzy
I cried for the band, I cried outside,
I cried for the man

Their sweat mottled, melted
Their prescription blush
I cried for the band, in the aisle
I cried for the man, snazzy

I never saw them again and if I ever do,
I'm sure it will be in purgatory,
Where all people will meet
And cry for the band,
Our tears went unnoticed
They were snazzy, jazzy, legs like trunks of ash, trunks of tree

Turn it up for the man, turn it up for the man!

Notes

1. This song has not been played live. Musically it bears a certain resemblance to "Touchy Pad" from 2013's The Remainderer

Dolb suggests that this is "a jab at all the recent publicity around the ex-members, the books, interviews (especially Louder than Words) and Brix and the Extricated."

2. There is an obscure (no IMDB entry) 2013 movie called Fishbowl City. The web page associated with the film describes it as follows:

Fishbowl City is a feature comic drama about two brothers, set in Belfasts' [sic] notorious Falls Road - abandoned by their father and watching their mother's slow decline into alcoholism, the brothers decide to take their future into their own hands. Micheal (Martin McCann) pursues a legitimate career while Stephen (John Travers) has notions of getting rich quick, however, fortune doesn't always favour the bold.

What is essentially an intimate story, filled with hope, danger and most of all love for one's family and friends, Fishbowl City aims to portray a real slice of life in Belfast.

One wonders if MES saw the film and if it holds any clues to the lyrics.

"Where all people will get
A cry for the band,"

I hear

"Where all people will meet
And cry for the band,"

That's much better, we'll run with it.

Do you not see this as a jab at all the recent publicity around the ex members, the books, interviews (especially Louder than words) and Brix and the Extricated?

I hadn't thought that but a definite possibility now that you mention it.

3rd line:

"green and unfettered on mock stage."

I'm still trying to get my ear around the first line:

"let me tell yer, about the Win-A-Lot"? "winner lot?" Something like that, certainly not weird lights, though.

The current situation is unacceptable but I'm running with "winner lot" for now...

"They were regarded as snazzy" has to be one of the greatest lines although I don't know why, I just get a kick out of it.

i agree with # 9...there are many lines like that. I find myself saying this out loud for no reason!

Anyone else fancy chiming in on the 3rd line? I'm pretty certain my previous comment's accurate.

OK, Wray, I went with it, it sounds like that as much as anything, and more than what I had. I changed the first line again, right now the closest I can come is "winter lights."

Although, none of you will be able to see it until the web page people tell me why all the lyrics disappear every time I update something now...

"Let me tell you about the wee lads (or weir lads)" is as near as I can get. Don't have a clue who that refers to though. Rest sounds good other than "prescription bled" sounds more like "blush" or something similar.

OK, "wee lads" seems at least marginally more likely than "winter lights," so I ran with it.

"Prescription blush" also seems like an upgrade over what we had, it sounds closer to that than "bled"...

Not familiar with this song, but as for 'Win-A-Lot', well there used to be a brand of dog food called 'Winalot'...any help?
