The Acute

Lyrics

(1)

One one one one one one one one one.

Have I got "I need advice" written on my forehead?
Have I got "I need advice...?"

Do I look like I have on my forehead,
Do I look like I have on my face,
Complain here and rip me off?
My advice to you is this
(Have I got "I need advice written on my forehead?")
Keep your pen with a cap,
(Have I got "I need advice...")
Don't press your finger in the wrong socket.
(written on my forehead?")

And to sum up,
The motive of this film is:
Keep your cap on your pen
And your dick in your pants. (2)

Do I look like
I have...
Written on my forehead
On my forehead
On my forehead

Acute

Notes

1. Could the title of this be a humorous echo of The Chronic, the blockbuster 1992 Dr. Dre album that introduced Snoop Doggy Dogg to an unsuspecting world? In "U.S. 80s-90s," MES refers to himself as "the big shot original rapper"...See note 2 below, however.

Dan:

Jim Watts, writing as sdOK on the Fall Online Forum, commented that the original lyrics included references to Frank Skinner:

I remember The Acute having a few lines about Mr Skinner in it in its original dictaphone format we were given to put over the music.

I have a desk mix of that version somewhere.

2. All this seems to be the same sort of "advice" as "If you go to Mexico, don't drink the water" and "Don't play with matches."

DJ Ash on the Fall Online Forum connects the lyrics with the the taxonomy in Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (and, perhaps more relevantly in this case, the film of the same name--note "The motive of this film" above) in which patients are divided into "chronics" and "acutes." As Ash points out, McMurphy, an "acute," gets into a lot of trouble--indeed, winds up getting lobotomized--because of his failure to "keep [his] dick in [his] pants."

"Keep your cap on your pen
Keep your dick in your pants"

What he actually sings is:

"Keep your cap on your pen and your dick in your pants"

Worth noting that forehead marks have particular significance in the Bible...

McMurphy in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is on of 'The Acutes' on the ward, and one reason for his transfer to the mental hospital is his seeming inability to keep his dick in his pants.

DJ, you went into much more (helpful) detail on the FOF and I can't find the thread, if you remember where it is could you link me to it?

Missing lyrics at the beginning of "The Acute": "One one one one one one one one one."

Please do not ascribe any deep meaning to these lyrics (e.g. "GOHOHO9O"); this is probably just MES helping the recording engineer set a vocal level in the studio. He typically shouts "one" to check microphones on stage as well.

Damn it, DJ fucked off. At least, it's been 8 months, so I'm starting to get worried he did...I've gone longer than that before responding to a comment, admittedly, but it's my site so you know I'll be back.

All the ones....added.
