I've Seen Them Come

Lyrics

I've seen them come
I've seen them come
I've seen them come
I've seen them go

I've seen them come

I've been to Gong
I've been to Ban Hu
I've been to Fu Gong
I've been to Guangzhou
I've been to Prague
I've been to Petakwai
I've been to Balthazar

I've been to the Alps
To Meijiang

I've seen them come
I've seen them come
I've seen them go

I've been to Dong, Ding, Du
Bellvue
And Prague
Betty Blue
Belshazzar
Belshazzar
Metal Mass  (2)

I've been to Ansatz
I've been to Brisbane
I've been to Dong, Fong, Fu, Ha
Gone to wollo-wollongong gong,
I'm goin' anywhere that wants me
On form
I've seen them come

Notes

1. In form, this is a bragging been-around-the-block number in the mold of Bo Diddley's "I've Seen Them All," Merle Haggard's "I've Done it All," or "I've Been Everywhere," which was written by Geoff Mack and made popular by Lucky Starr, Hank Snow, and Johnny Cash. I'm not 100% confident that every one is a real place, and I'm not going to check, although my readers will, for which I thank them in advance...

2. Yes, this is a thing, and it's exactly what it sounds like, a heavy metal church service. Big in Finland--where else (in Denmark it would have to be dedicated to Satan, I presume)?

Thanks to Martin for this information; I have not, in this case, seen them come...

Note that it sounds like "Middle Mass"...

Whether this helps or not, I don't know!

Sometimes the backing vocalist (Dave Spurr?) says "I've seen them go."

Brisbane and Auckland are easily verified; The Fall toured Australia and New Zealand in December 2010 (before the recording of Ersatz GB) and played both cities.

OK I added that, but it's more complicated...Johnny Cash isn't the most famous version

My lyrics in the second verse don't resemble what's going on. I bought "wollongong," but some serious overhauling has to go on.

Also he seems to be saying "Balshazzar," not "Balthazar"

Earlier it's Balthazar though

Betty Blue is a 1986 French erotic psychological drama film based on the 1985 novel 37˚2 le matin by Philippe Djian.

I haven't seen it but from what I read of the synopsis I don't see how it relates to anything else in this lyric.
