(We WIsh You) A Protein Christmas

Lyrics

(1)

Christmas time
No bells around
Christmas time
Muffled and knocked down

C-C-C-Christmas time

(Daa da da daa, etc)

All the family is in the house today
How I wish I had never gone away
I see Christ's blood on the street
Something here is the wrong way round (2)

Ahhh...

(Daa da da daa, etc)

The feast of man in October (3)
Menus for hampers
Why did I come back?
I came back to Earth
The only thing good to say is
All the politicians are on holiday (4)

Let's hope for a Protein Protection Christmas
Through all the land

(Daa da da daa, etc)

To all our Euro and friends in Jerusalem
And Damascus
And Pra-ha-hahaha-ha-gue (5)
Haha hahahaha ha
Ho ho ho ho ho ho ho

Fastest out of the club with excuses
Haha hahahaha ha
Who's the fastest out of the club with excuses?

In my re-enforced exile
You know it's the smell
Anytime

Anytime

Notes

1. This single is a rewrite of "Proteinprotection." Drummer and co-writer Dave Milner has expressed a preference for this over the latter, and so has, believe it or not, Jeff Wheeler.

^

2. This brings to mind "Tempo House": "Snow on Easter Sunday/ Jesus Christ in reverse."

^

3. According to Danny, "Pope John Paul II declared in 1978 that Christmas was 'the feast of man.' I'm sure this is not remotely relevant, unless MES is commenting on how early Christmas shopping starts these days."

^

4. The Story of the Fall helpfully points out that this is a cliché, but I'm not sure if it's an actual cliché or just something that sounds like a cliché.

^

5. "Praha" is the Czech name for Prague.

"The feast of man in October"

Pope John Paul II declared in 1978 that Christmas was "the feast of man":

I'm sure this is not remotely relevant, unless MES is commenting on how early Christmas shopping starts these days.

"Something here is the wrong way around"

Surely, "Something here is the wrong way round"

I just thought i'd say, it's not so much a re-write of protein protection as a reversion to the form of the original version of said track from the original leaked & scrapped country on the click lp...also that i always heard "sofa here is the wrong way round", but that's probably just me

More prophetic genius from the man we love to label our Hip Priest.

"And people only need me when they're down and gone to seed, cos I'm the Hip Priest!

clean as a pack of chocolate treats.

love you Mark.........like so many of us do.

Ha, I always thought <muffled and knocked down> was <more food and nuts> but this is much cleverer, the bells have stopped at Christmas, yuletide irreligion wins out

Reading these lyrics just remind me how much of MES' output read like banal gibberish . . . but sounded like profound genius when he sang it.

Praha probably familiar to MES from appearing on lager bottles and beer pumps.
